It is now nearing the end of 2021 and the Madonna has been calling me again. She has been sitting quietly during lockdown, yet on reflection I feel she has been waiting for me.
The lockdown created an usual withdrawal for me as I struggled to function in a world that is literally and energetically yelling with conflicting opinions and declarations.
During lockdown we also undertook some repairs of the Madonna. She had developed cracks which we now know was due to the wood not being aged sufficiently.
Many thanks to Brandon Tang. His passion for wood and making with wood was such a gift and exactly what we needed for Notre Dame du Monde. We are also grateful that he has offered to help out with any future restoration requirements.
She looks different now yet, like most Black Madonnas, is beginning to reflect her journey over time.
